Television and radio presenter, Mariclare Carey-Jones, who regularly works with Rhiwbina-based PR agency Weltch Media as a broadcasting and training consultant, is preparing for the journey of a lifetime – trekking through the Costa Rican rainforest in aid of a charity that is close to her heart.
Mariclare has been an Ambassador for Marie Curie since the charity cared for her late grandfather five years ago. “The doctors and nurses at Marie Curie are incredible,” said Mariclare. “Not just to the patients, but families as well, so it’s a privilege for me to support them in any way I can”.
On 1st April Mariclare and other supporters will set off from the Marie Curie hospice in Penarth to start their journey to Costa Rica where they will trek through dense rainforest terrain for six days and scale four volcanoes along the way.
She is being sponsored by CJCH Solicitors, Knights Estate Agents, and Chicabel.
“Everyone involved in the trek has their own special reason for taking part, whether it is to remember a loved one, thank the nurses and doctors for their support, or to take on a personal challenge,” she said. “But we’ll have to work as a team to ensure we complete the trek successfully”.
Between them they will be raising around £100,000, which will make a huge difference to the charity. It costs Marie Curie £70 for a patient to attend a day therapy session, and £400 for a patient to receive just 24 hours of care at the hospice.
The trek is being filmed for a documentary series on Made In Cardiff TV.
