The Groaker, Rhiwbina’s Mediterranean-style tapas bar and restaurant, has closed.
A forfeiture notice, posted on the business’s closed shutters yesterday (September 7) states that the landlord has taken back the property at 4a Heol y Deri “under the terms of the demised lease”.
The restaurant’s unusual name – according to its website – came from “an old Scottish dialect term meaning ‘to look longingly after some wanted object, and specifically, to longingly watch someone while they eat in the hope of being invited to join them.’”
The Groaker opened in 2020 and, like many businesses, it suffered during the height of the COVID crisis.
In August 2020, we reported how two well-established local businesses, The Olive Branch and Beulah Dress Agency, had closed due to the pandemic.
The Groaker’s social media accounts seem to have been inactive for several weeks.
