Review: Northern Ballet presents Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre, a classic of English literature, is brought spectacularly to life in this stunning new production by Northern Ballet, which opened at the New Theatre tonight (Tuesday April 24th).

Overcoming the cruelty of her childhood as an orphan in Victorian England, our heroine, Jane, faces further hardships before finding happiness in an unlikely romance with the mysterious Mr Rochester.

But Rochester has a secret – a hidden past that threatens to ruin them both.

Choreographed by Cathy Marston, and with music by Philip Feeney, played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia, this is a captivating production, which has delighted critics and wowed audiences – including ballet newbies like me.

It delivers all the emotion and passion of Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel in a dazzling, physical two-hour treat from Northern Ballet’s supremely talented cast. No wonder it was nominated for the South Bank Sky Arts Dance Award 2017.

Northern Ballet’s Jane Eyre is performed at Cardiff’s New Theatre all week until Saturday (April 28th). For details and tickets, visit newtheatrecardiff.co.uk or call the box office on (029) 2087 8889.

An audio described performance takes place on Saturday at 2.30pm with a Touch Tour for patrons with visual impairment taking place from 12pm. To book, please call the box office.
