Rhiwbina's community cinema, Monico Movies, has announced its summer programme.
The popular monthly movie show will feature The Long Good Friday with Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren on Saturday 8 June and Italian classic Cinema Paradiso on Saturday 13 July.
The Long Good Friday (1980) is an acclaimed British crime movie, starring Bob Hoskins as Harold Shand, a powerful gangster in London with a plan to gentrify his beloved city's decaying waterfront with desirable properties, bankrolled by the American Mafia.
But on Good Friday, he finds his empire is under attack and his plans under threat. Who is behind the violence and why? How can Shand get his revenge and salvage the deal?
The Long Good Friday, directed by John MacKenzie from a script by Barrie Keeffe, is a hard-nosed crime story reflecting a London still reeling from the economic hardships of the '70s and about to change forever.
Multi award-winning (including an Oscar) Cinema Paradiso (1988), written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, has been hailed as one of the 100 best films of all time and is credited with revitalising the Italian film industry.
It tells the story of a famous filmmaker recalling his childhood when he fell in love with the movies at the cinema in his village and developed a strong friendship with the projectionist.
Tickets will be available from the usual Rhiwbina outlets, Serenade, Victoria Fearn Gallery, The Honeypot and The Deri Stores at £5 (cash only).
Monico Movies shows start at 7.30pm, with doors open at 7pm. The venue is Canolfan Beulah Church Community Centre,Beulah Road, CF14 6LX
