North Cardiff is to get its own junior parkrun.

The news comes as junior parkrun in the city celebrates its 10th anniversary - a milestone which means children in Cardiff have run, jogged, skipped and walked almost three times round the Equator.

More than 6,500 junior parkrunners, aged four to 14, have completed nearly 60,000 events at Cardiff junior parkrun at Llandaff Fields since it launched in 2015 – clocking up over 117,000km over the 2km course.

Now plans have been announced for a North Cardiff event, starting soon at Cardiff Metropolitan University campus in Cyncoed.

Cardiff junior parkrun (pictured) takes place every Sunday at 9.30am at Llandaff Fields, and marked the 10-year milestone yesterday (Sunday 9 February).

Over the last 10 years, more than 1,250 volunteers have completed over 12,000 volunteer shifts.

Kerry Pellatt, Cardiff junior parkrun's event director, said: "It is wonderful to have reached this anniversary, and I want to thank all the children for their brilliant energy and all the volunteers for their support".

Junior parkrun is part of the global parkrun movement, which includes our own North Cardiff event, Llanishen Park parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am.

Last May, a junior parkrun mental health and well-being survey found that eight out of ten parents and caregivers reported that junior parkrun has had a positive impact on their child's sense of personal achievement.
